This variety is considered one of the most cold hardy peaches. Veteran was developed in Canada from a cross of Early Elberta and Vaughn and introduced in 1928. The fruit is golden yellow with a slight red blush, medium to large with excellent quality for both fresh eating and canning. The trees are vigorous and productive, and they will tolerate cold temperatures during bloom better than many other peach varieties.

Use this list to help choose fruit trees which yield fruit at different times throughout the season. (Harvest dates are approximate for south central PA. Adjust accordingly for other locations.)
Our peach and nectarine trees are grown on industry standard Bailey rootstock. If we need to purchase peach trees to supplement our own inventory, these trees are typically grown on Lovell rootstock. For a traditional, open center planting we recommend spacing the trees 12-14’ in row and 20’ between rows. For perpendicular V training, the recommended spacing is 6’ in row and 20’ feet between rows.
